MarineORC (Organic Rankine Cycle)

MarineORC (Organic Rankine Cycle)

Unit power generation based on MarineORC (Organic Rankine Cycle). This unit use the heat that is lost from the cooling water for power generation.

In the ORC the water cooling shirts and exhaust manifolds will be used to heat an organic fluid of low temperature of evaporation. Once evaporated that fluid, it will go through an expander which will move an electric generator. Then it will go through the expander to condense using the salty water from the sea as cold sink. When it is in liquid state, it will be compressed by the pump to evaporate again with the heat of the cooling water from the engine.

The unit power will be about 20 kWe. The electrical performance in this type of equipment is often relatively low, between 10% and 14%, depending on the operating conditions; otherwise the entire heat generation would be lost. That is, it fails to generate electricity with zero fuel costs. This is an important fuel save in a direct way, also decrease emissions of greenhouse gases (CO2) and pollutant gases (NOx).

This unit is completely innovative and new worldwide. To date only one other unit by high-power 500 kW is known.
